Three Animations from Elara Systems Won Awards at the 2023 AMI Conference

Gold River, CA: In July, three 3D medical animations by Elara Systems won awards at the 77th Annual Association of Medical Illustrators (AMI) Conference in Henderson, Nevada. The event celebrates the work of medical illustrators and designers, including students and professionals worldwide, and their impact on science, health, and education. 

Elara’s “Sickle Cell Associated Priapism in Children” animation received three honors, including the Award of Excellence in the Educational category, the inaugural Social Impact Award, a new cross-category honor that celebrates work that addresses diversity and inclusive representation, and the Member’s Choice Award, which is handpicked by AMI attendees and is considered the highest honor in the organization’s Salon of medical illustrations. The video was created in collaboration with the Sickle Cell Disease Society to promote and advance awareness of the disease and its effects. 

The company’s “Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) Procedure,” a medical animation explaining the ESG procedure to patients considering weight loss surgery, was presented with the Award of Merit in the Commercial category. The piece was created for Apollo Endosurgery to show how its minimally invasive devices perform the procedure while reducing complications. 

“The Nordlys System” animation won the Award of Excellence in the Marketing category. It highlights the features and benefits of the Candela Nordlys skin treatment, which uses state-of-the-art technology to improve the appearance of patients’ skin when performing laser hair removal, skin rejuvenation, and vascular and pigmented lesion treatments.

These animations were created to educate providers, patients, and their loved ones on the benefits of new medical techniques and treatments. Each piece visualizes the patients’ experience using realistic animations of certain parts of the body, including internal organs, and how each procedure will affect their function. Elara Systems is honored to have received these awards from members of the AMI community. The company currently employs medical animators who serve as active AMI members to ensure its projects meet the highest standards in medical visualization.
