3D Medical Animation: Health Conditions
At Elara, we have the tools and expertise to bring medical conditions to life on screen, so patients and care providers around the world can better understand the presented topic and material. Through a combination of different mediums, such as animation, virtual reality, voiceover, and live-action video, Elara can tell your story in a way that resonates with your target audience. Let us help you raise awareness for your cause using our 3D Animation services.
Clotting Cascade
“The Clotting Cascade” is a natural and complex blood clotting process that prevents excessive bleeding after injury and promotes wound healing. The blood clotting cascade involves a series of consecutive reactions where platelets and various pathways collaborate harmoniously to form a stable clot. Over 2 million people in the United States are treated annually for various blood clotting disorders. The comprehension of this intricate system helps to improve patient care and management. Elara was asked to create a 3D medical animation showing how the human body produces a clot during an injury. This journey will unravel the mysteries of the blood clotting cascade and its impact on human health and well-being.
Sickle Cell
Priapism is a medical condition linked to sickle cell disease, a genetic disorder affecting red blood cells’ shape and function. It’s caused by a gene mutation affecting hemoglobin production. In sickle cell disease, red blood cells lose their flexibility and take on a sickle or crescent shape, leading to complications.
In this video, 3D characters were carefully designed and animated to share a personal story about priapism. By using personal anecdotes, the animation aims to connect with its young audience, providing a relatable and human narrative that can help them better understand and navigate this sensitive subject matter.
Parkinson’s Disease
Parkinson’s disease affects nearly 1,000,000 people in the U.S. This neurodegenerative condition causes a loss of neurons in the part of the brain called substantia nigra. Although the cause is largely unknown, it is more common later in life and for those with family members who have it. Parkinson’s disease leads to a decrease in dopamine levels in the brain and slows movement. Common symptoms include tremors, rigid muscles, impaired posture or balance, speech, and writing changes. In this Parkinson’s 3D Animation, Elara illustrates how this disease affects the body and outlines therapy and treatment options.
Asthma
Asthma is a chronic or long-term lung disease that results in the inflammation and narrowing of the airways. Across the USA more than 25 million people are known to have asthma in some form or other – and that number is only increasing. To help explain how this disease affects the body, Elara created this one-minute mixed-media presentation that shows what it’s like to have asthma, including how to prevent an asthma attack. The photo-realistic animation details exactly what asthma does to the lungs, helping providers and patients better understand this disease.
ACL
ACL, or anterior cruciate ligament injuries, can affect athletes of all ages. In this short, ACL tear animation, Elara details exactly what happens when an ACL injury occurs. This brief injury animation can help coaches, parents, players, and even care providers better treat and respond to ACL injuries when they happen during practice or a game. With an emphasis on photorealism and scientific accuracy, Elara uses a variety of different mediums and visual elements to create some of the best medical animations in the industry.
Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea is when a person periodically stops and starts breathing during their sleep. This is caused by a range of behavioral and environmental factors, and an estimated 10 million Americans remain undiagnosed. In this short 3D video, our team used 3D animation and voiceover to explain the effects of sleep apnea, what causes it, and how it can be treated over time. Considering it only affects patients when they are asleep, the video talks about diagnosing sleep apnea with a Fitbit and how patients can detect their sleep apnea.
CTE
Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) is a degenerative brain disease found in athletes, military veterans, and others with a history of repetitive brain trauma. To reduce the number of CTE cases around the world, the medical community is spreading the word on the dangers of head injuries and contact sports. For our part, the Elara team created this short, detailed video that shows how CTE affects the brain, including loss of cognitive function and changes in a person’s mood and behavior. The video includes animation and live-action video.
Opioids V1
The nation is in the middle of an opioid epidemic. Every day, more than 130 people in the United States die after overdosing on opioids. As a result, many care providers struggle when it comes to prescribing opioids for chronic pain. In this short video entitled, The Science of Opioids, the Elara team shows exactly how opioids affect the brain.
In just two minutes, we explain what opioids are, what they do to the biology of our brain and nervous systems, and the overall impact of their use. With the synergy of 3D Animation, motion graphics, titling, and voiceover, we accomplished just that and more.
Opioids V2
The opioid crisis has been cited by many as the health crisis of our time. This short video takes a look at the facts behind some of the most powerful types of opioids, their usage, and the crisis that’s been caused by their abuse. This 3D Animation provides a scientifically accurate view of opioids at work in the human brain and nervous system.
Since the release of the initial opioid piece, Elara has received many requests for use of the video in other productions, including the award-winning documentary film Heroin’s Grip, Stories from the Front Lines of the Heroin and Opioid Crisis.
Sera Prognostics
Sera Prognostics has developed a series of new diagnostic tests that can predict a woman’s individualized risk of premature birth, preeclampsia, and other pregnancy complications. Sera’s tests are designed to give women and their physicians the power and time they need to create individualized treatment plans for both the mother and their newborn. In this short, animated video, Elara shows exactly how these diagnostic tests work and how they can benefit pregnant women. With a scripted voiceover, the brief animation effectively addresses complex testing ideas in easy-to-understand terms.
BAK Preservatives
BAK (Benzalkonium chloride) preservatives are very effective against pathogens, however, they were not specifically designed to be friendly to the eye. They can consist of harsh chemicals that stop bacterial growth but also harm corneal and conjunctival epithelial cells.
After chronic use of medications containing these preservatives for conditions such as glaucoma, the deleterious effect on anterior segment epithelial cells leads to poor production and maintenance of the tear film, resulting in problems such as dry-eye syndrome. Long-term use can also roughen the surface of the cornea and conjunctiva because of the loss of epithelium and inflammation.
Skin Conditions
For this particular project, our client was looking to create a 3D Animation highlighting their product’s effectiveness. It was critical to produce a piece that was clinically accurate, educational, and ultimately captivated health care professionals. Instead of taking the traditional route of product photography, they were looking to take a digital approach that would allow them to leverage the content they produced. In doing so, with the digital asset bundle we provided, they were able to use clips, still, and renders across multiple departments including; marketing, sales, education, and training.
